Furnace, air conditioning and plumbing in West Valley City

West Valley City is the second largest in the state, and most of its housing went up between the 1970s and the 1990s. That is a great many houses on their second furnace, their second air conditioner and their third water heater, sitting on the valley floor where the winter air is at its worst.

West Valley City questions we get asked

Can you get to West Valley City the same day?

It is about eighteen minutes from the shop in Sandy via Bangerter or I-215, and same day wherever the schedule allows is the commitment the company has always made. If we genuinely cannot make it, we will tell you on the phone rather than after you have waited in.

My furnace is short-cycling. What does that mean?

It means the furnace shuts down before it finishes a heat cycle. The usual causes are a dirty filter starving it of airflow, a flame sensor that needs cleaning, a blocked exhaust, or a furnace so oversized it heats the thermostat faster than it heats the house. The first two are inexpensive. The last is why sizing matters at replacement, and it is the most common thing we find in houses of this vintage.

How old is too old for a furnace?

Fifteen to twenty years is the usual service life, and what actually decides it is the cost of the next repair against what is left. A cracked heat exchanger ends the conversation for safety reasons. A failed inducer motor on a twelve-year-old unit usually does not. We quote before we start either way, so you approve a number rather than receive one.

Does the inversion mean I should change my filter more often?

It means the filter you have is working harder than the schedule on the box assumes. West Valley City sits low in the valley, which is where the winter inversion layer settles. A one-inch filter changed twice a year is not really a filtration strategy down here, and a better filter or a deeper media cabinet is a cheaper comfort upgrade than most of the alternatives.

What we see in West Valley City homes

Built in a rush, ageing in a block

The 1970s-to-1990s build-out left a great deal of similar housing on similar schedules: eighty-percent furnaces, split-system air conditioners, and ducting that was adequate on the day and has had a basement finished around it since. It is honest, understandable equipment, and most of what goes wrong with it is fixable on the first visit by somebody carrying the right parts.

Low ground in January

At about 4,300 feet West Valley City is on the valley floor. The inversion does not damage a furnace, but it changes what is worth spending on: in a house this age, sealing the return and improving filtration usually buys more comfort per dollar than another half-point of rated efficiency does.

One company for both trades

Most HVAC companies hand you a plumber and a phone number. We hold both licences, which matters on the day the water heater, the humidifier or the condensate line turns out to be the problem and the furnace was never at fault.

What customers say

Great customer service. Luke is the man! He took the time to talk with me on his birthday and then had my central air up and running the next day.
Taylor BiceAir conditioning
We had our old furnace making a loud noise, apparently the motor had gone bad so we ended up having iRepair install a new furnace and AC with a new system that is much more efficient.

Eusebio came out within a couple hours, found that we had a couple filters that needed replaced and our cool had frozen over.
