Furnace, air conditioning and plumbing in Murray

Murray is one of the older inner-valley cities and it shows in the mechanical rooms. Post-war houses on small lots with the furnace and water heater wedged into a corner of the basement, sitting a few streets from new infill along the light rail that was built to a completely different standard.

Murray questions we get asked

Do you do plumbing as well as heating?

Yes, on the same licence — Utah License #8050405-5501 covers HVAC and plumbing both. That matters more than it sounds in a house this age, because water heaters, humidifiers, hydronic leftovers and condensate lines all sit exactly on the boundary between the two trades, and that boundary is where jobs get bounced between contractors.

How far is Murray from you?

About eight minutes from the shop in Sandy, straight up State Street or one exit on I-15. It is one of the closest cities we cover.

My water pressure has dropped everywhere in the house. What causes that?

In a post-war Murray house the usual suspects are galvanised supply pipe closing up from the inside with corrosion, a failing pressure-reducing valve, or a main shut-off somebody never fully reopened. The first is a repipe conversation. The other two are not — which is exactly why it is worth having somebody look before you assume the expensive one.

Can you get a water heater into a basement that small?

Usually, and where the clearances genuinely will not work a tankless unit hangs on the wall and gives the floor space back. Tankless is not automatically right — it costs more up front and the installation is more involved — but a cramped Murray mechanical room is one of the cases where it earns its money on space alone.

What we see in Murray homes

Small lots, old service lines

The older streets were laid out when houses sat close together and the pipes under them were laid to the standard of the day. Galvanised supply, clay or cast-iron waste, and a service line that has had the road resurfaced over it several times. None of that is urgent until it is, and a camera in the lateral before you buy or before you landscape is cheap next to finding out afterwards.

Two cities on one map

The newer development around the hospital and along the TRAX line is a different building entirely: tighter, better insulated, often on high-efficiency equipment with a condensate drain to manage. We take both kinds of call here in the same week, and the diagnostic starting point is not the same for them.

Bottom of the valley in winter

At about 4,300 feet Murray sits low, which is exactly where the inversion layer settles. It does not shorten equipment life. It is the strongest practical argument on the Front for spending money on filtration rather than on another half-point of rated efficiency.

What customers say

Great customer service. Luke is the man! He took the time to talk with me on his birthday and then had my central air up and running the next day.
Taylor BiceAir conditioning
We had our old furnace making a loud noise, apparently the motor had gone bad so we ended up having iRepair install a new furnace and AC with a new system that is much more efficient.
Larry Smithee Jr.Furnace replacement
Eusebio came out within a couple hours, found that we had a couple filters that needed replaced and our cool had frozen over.

Call and speak to somebody now. We come out the same day wherever the schedule allows — and if we cannot reach Murray today we will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have waited in.
